In July, Hammer Residences hosted its annual Reach for Ralph fundraiser at the Nicollet Island Pavilion. The night celebrated more than 90 years of serving the lake area with services for adults and children with developmental disabilities.

 

Fine dining isn’t what it used to be, and thank heavens for that. It’s shed its uptight reputation and rigid rules in favor of something lighter and more fun. New upscale eateries are swanky instead of snobby, elegant rather than stuffy.

 

Rich Hall, an amateur photographer, has a lot of experience shooting people in action. From weddings to girls’ high school hockey, he knows how to take the excitement of human life and freeze it. Yet it is this shot of quiet, empty downtown Excelsior that caught his eye.

In The Road Back to Sweetgrass, first-time novelist Linda LeGarde Grover weaves a captivating story, of three American Indian women living in northern Minnesota on the fictional Mozhay Point reservation.

 

In less than a year of planning, a simple idea sparked by a newspaper article led St. Luke Presbyterian Church to install 96 solar panels on its roof in October. This story begins with Lane Ayres, a member of the Sustainability Task Force of the church.
